Preparing for Grade 1

At the age of 6, children enter the first grade of primary school, marking a transition between two different environments. From the free and natural play activities of preschool, children step into the structured world of academic learning.

This transition can have a significant impact on a child’s psychology, especially those who are active and like to follow their own desires.

The preparation program for grade 1 is organized 3-6 months before starting the first-grade school year. Children need to become familiar with the activities and framework of the primary school environment. This is essential and crucial as it lays the foundation for children to gain confidence, interest, and skills in their new environment.

The “Preparing for Grade 1” program is designed with the following objectives:

  • Proficiency in Reading and Writing: To develop proficiency in reading and writing, ensuring that children are able to read and write all 29 letters of the alphabet fluently.
  • Basic Math Skills: To teach mathematics within the range of 1-20 and ensure children have a solid understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts from the very beginning.
  • Physical Fitness and School Environment Familiarization: To enhance physical fitness and familiarize children with the primary school learning environment, helping them adjust to the new setting.
  • Enhanced Focus and Purposeful Learning: To improve concentration and promote purposeful learning, enabling children to stay engaged in their studies.
  • Development of 5C Skills: To strengthen the 5C skills – communication, creativity, critical thinking, confidence, and collaboration – which are essential for success in various aspects of life.

The child came home very excited, and he met many lovely friends. They picked vegetables themselves and made a salad, then enjoyed the dish they cooked. It was delicious, Mom!!

I’ve been learning about gratitude. I’m grateful for all the aunts and uncles at THT, grateful for everyone who loves me, but because there are only 3 lines to write, I can’t express it all… I have many things to be thankful for, Mom!! Mom, please let me participate in TOE again.

Tram Anh’s Mom

Thanks to attending the class, Đức Anh has become more confident than before, and I still hope that he will become even more confident. Đức Anh is still shy when he doesn’t understand the lesson, and he is hesitant to ask the teacher if he doesn’t understand or hasn’t listened carefully. So, I kindly ask the teacher to be patient with him more.

FAQ

PRE-ELEMENTARY is an extracurricular program designed for children aged 5-6 who are currently in kindergarten. It aims to provide additional exposure to the three subjects of Mathematics, Reading, and Writing in an integrated manner.
Preparing for Grade 1: The program only opens in June, about 2.5-3 months before entering grade 1, to review and reinforce your child’s Reading, Writing, and Math skills.
In addition, the “Preparing for Grade 1” program is designed with other objectives in mind. Your child needs to become familiar with the activities and routines of the primary school environment. This is essential and crucial as it lays the foundation for your child to gain more confidence, interest, and skills in the new environment.

The goal of the “Preparing for Grade 1” program is to help students enter grade 1 with confidence. While the content certainly follows the curriculum framework provided by the ministry, the program will employ different methods and approaches to ensure that children remain interested and engaged in the subjects taught in school. In a typical classroom hour at a public school, the class size can be quite large, and the teacher may not have enough time to provide individual attention to each child. This can lead to some students needing extra tutoring after school and may result in children feeling pressured and fearful of going to school.

The Digital Citizenship Programming program includes First Coding – a foundational course specifically designed for preschool children aged 5-6 who may not have advanced reading and writing skills yet. They can still participate in First Coding by directly observing, handling, assembling, and using command cards to control robots. The robots move based on the stories of characters within the program. Children are guided through these stories, presented with challenges, and encouraged to solve them by using and developing basic skills such as observation, analysis, teamwork, presentation, communication, and critical thinking…
